County Council's U turn on youth service cuts -
OXFORDSHIRE County Council has announced that it will not now be carrying through with stringent cuts to the county's youth services.
This policy reversal comes after complaints about the council's original plans to make savings of around £2.3 million over five years in the youth service, including a petition from members of the UNITE union which includes youth workers.
The council now says that it is now looking to make only £350,000 worth of savings in this area from 2012/13 onwards.
The annual £100,000 'Chill Out' fund for youth project in Oxfordshire will also now remain as will financial support for the Oxfordshire Youth Parliament.
The council says that saving will be made by making cuts back office functions and dramatically lowering bureaucracy, by freezing councillors' allowances,
raising on-street parking charges to align with off-street charges and other measures.
