Award for talented Thame gymnast 13/01/10 -

A young gymnast from Thame is among 43 Oxfordshire young people to be awarded over £10,000 between them to support their efforts in sports, citizenship and the arts.

Emerald Baxter aged 11 from Thame, is a skilful gymnast at The Oxford School of Gymnastics. Her and her partner are currently ranked number two in Great Britain, winning silver at the British Championships in 2009, and she is ranked number one for her age group in the southern region. Her aim is to keep competing for the southern region and nationally.

Malcolm Leonard, Chairman of South Oxfordshire District Council, which is giving this funding, will present the awards at the council’s arts centre, Cornerstone in Didcot on January 19, 2010, at 4.30pm.
