13/01/12.....Guinness Squash marathon pair holding up after 13 hrs -

GUY Fotherby and Darren Withey, who are currently in the fourteenth hour of a Guinness World record attempt for a squash marathon, are holding up well on court at Racquets fitness Centre in Thame.

The two are battling to beat the current Guinness World Record for a Squash marathon of 31 hours and 2 minutes, held by a couple of players from Basingstoke. They are aiming to raise £10,000 for two charities, Cancer Research and the Chilterns Centre for the Disabled.

Meritus Hotels & Resorts, for whom Guy is Director of Marketing & Development, have already pledged £100 per hour that the lads survive which will be matched by Savoy Hotels and Resorts, the club's new sponsor.

At 4pm, six hours after they started, when the players paused for a short, permitted break, local massage practitioner, Michele Pether turned up to give the lads a much appreciated massage while they took in some much needed calories and fluids. A change of socks and shoes and Ten minutes later, they were back on court playing surprisingly competitive and fast-paced squash.

The latest report (11.40 pm) from local fireman Andy Ford, who intends to stay and offer moral support and encouragement throughout the night, is that Guy and Darren are in good shape and have just gone back on court after a short break, a change of shirts and new rackets.
