Sat 2nd Jubilee Ceilidh. The band Steam Chicken will be playing jazzy danceable music for Saturday’s ceilidh (8pm at the Village Hall and the Hammersmith Morris Men (a side formed well over 40 years ago by Hugh Rippon) will be doing the dance displays. In concert, in the Walter Rose Room, will be Martin Carthy , legendary English folk singer and guitarist, who is known as the Guv’nor. John Heydon writes: “You are invited to join us for our Jubilee celebration ceilidh. But besides the Jubilee, we have something else to celebrate. For 40 years, Hugh Rippon has been our resident caller and is the major reason Haddenham Ceilidhs have been so successful. This will be Hugh's last ceilidh as our regular caller as he has decided to retire! Well not completely! With persuasion, he has agreed to come back for two more celebrations. In December (our 40th anniversary) and next April (our 400th ceilidh), but this June will be the last on a regular basis. Admission to the venue, only £10, lets you dance or enjoy the concert or perhaps a bit of both! If you email john@actionfolk.co.uk or telephone 01296 415333 tickets will be held for you on the door. Mon 4th Jubilee Picnic The Parish Council and the Haddenham Village Fête committee are organising a family picnic at Church End, on Monday, June 4, (from 3pm), with background jazz music, hog roast and barbecue. You are invited to bring your celebrations to Church End Green, where the surrounding roads around the green will be closed for the afternoon so you can hold your own street party there in a safe environment. Bring your own picnic food (in addition to or instead of the hog roast etc) and drink, rugs or chairs, listen to live music and join in the fun.
Mon 4th Jubilee Service The Jubilee picnic will be followed at 6pm, at St Mary’s Church, by a Churches Together in Haddenham Service of Thanksgiving for HM The Queen’s 60 year reign. The church bells will ring from 5.45pm and singing at the 45 minute service will be led by a choir drawn from the 4 village churches. The service will be followed by celebration drinks and there’ll be a chance to look at photo boards showing the work of St Mary’s Church and the activities of a number of village organisations. These photos will also be on display on the fête day.
