09/08/12......Going out on a high note! -
IT'S that time of year again! Thame Youth Theatre’s exciting Summer Project is back! This year TYT will be going back to 1930’s New York, where the guys love a good gamble and the dolls love a good guy, in ‘Guys and Dolls’.
The Thame Youth Theatre Summer Project is a week-long workshop of rehearsals, leading to two performances at the end of the week. This is the third year that the Summer Project has run, and in previous years, they have performed ‘Hairspray’ and ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ to audiences in Thame!
Sadly, Megan Bateman, Manager of Thame Youth Theatre, will soon be leaving after three years of directing the group. Megan said: “It has been an absolute pleasure coordinating Thame Youth Theatre and helping it grow over the last three years.” Megan’s replacement, Tom Mackriell, who is currently working at the Wycombe Swan Theatre, will be taking over the group from September.
As ‘Guys and Dolls’ will be Megan’s final Summer Project with the group, all the stops have been pulled out with props, costume and set design. “We’ve got some fantastic stage creations this year for the Summer Project, and I’m really excited about the performances on Friday," she said. "There are many people involved in putting the Summer Project together, but nobody enjoys it more than the children!"
Hester Cameron does not attend Thame Youth Theatre as a regular member, but has taken part in all three Summer Projects; “It’s really fun to take part in the Thame Youth Theatre summer project, and I love being part of the brilliant musicals involving lots of singing, dancing and acting,” she said.
There will be two performances of ‘Guys and Dolls’; a matinee at 4:30pm, and an evening performance at 7pm. The production will be performed on Friday, August 10, at The Phoenix Performing Arts Studio, Lord Williams’s Lower School, Towersey Road, Thame. To book tickets, call Megan on 07805 885 846.
