26/09/12.....Invitation to Thame runners! Be a Superhero for a day -

THE Florence Nightingale Hospice charity, has issued an invitation to all Thame runners and walkers to join their 'Superhero' fun run coming soon to Aylesbury.

AYLESBURY SUPERHERO RETURNS TO WATERMEAD – WILL YOU BE A SUPERHERO FOR THE DAY IN HOSPICE CARE WEEK?
Put your superhero powers to the test as Aylesbury Superhero returns to Watermead on Sunday, October 14, at 10am – a 5k fun run, jog, walk or crawl around the village and picturesque lake in aid of the Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity (FNHC), which support local families affected by life-limiting illness through in-patient and at-home services.

Last year’s event saw over 100 superheroes of all ages taking part in the challenge, including 12-week-old Ruby and Lily. The fun event helped to raise close to £5000 in support of the Florence Nightingale Hospice and its essential services, which include a 12-bedded In-Patient Unit and Day Hospice based at Stoke Mandeville, Aylesbury, Florrie’s Children’s Team, who visit sick children in their own home providing respite care and support to the whole family, a Lymphoedema Clinic, Specialist Community Nursing Teams and a brand new Nightingale 24/7 Team, providing 24-hour day and night-time care in the home for patients and their families at a crucial time of need.

Superhero runners, joggers, walkers and sporty kids donned a variety of fancy dress costumes including Captain America, Spiderman, Superman, Ben 10 and Wonder Woman, with the more quirky costumes coming in the form of a deep sea diver, mankini man and bartender with a tray of cocktails – with ice!

This year’s event taking place in Hospice Care Week – a national awareness week to promote the work of Hospices around the UK running from 8th-14th October, promises to be a fun-packed Sunday morning not to be missed: “Our first Aylesbury Superhero 5k fun run was absolutely fantastic fun on a Sunday morning,” said FNHC’s Sam Heggie. “Our superheroes really got into the spirit of the event, with some amazing costumes donned on the day. We’re hoping many more local families will take part in this year’s event, offering something for all the family in support of the Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity, which needs over £600,000 this year to keep the Hospice and its essential in-patient and at-home services running.”

Registration is £10 per person (aged 16 and over), £7.50 for 2-15-year-olds and under 2’s go FREE. Registration includes Aylesbury Superhero entry, superhero medal, plus refreshments and goodies on the day. You can download an entry form by visiting www.aylesburysuperhero.co.uk or by contacting the Charity on 01296 429975.
